Queens & friends

Broei offers a platform to young musical talent through initiatives such as Open Stage, Behind the decks, Local Heroes,... in Bar Broei. While compiling our music program, we repeatedly came to the conclusion that there are significantly more male artists and bands. Both female and gender neutral artists are less present, especially in specific genres such as hip hop, R&B, jazz, electro, etc.

Through this project, we want to actively focus on playing opportunities for existing talent in order to put role models in the spotlight as inspiration for the younger generation. On the other hand, we are setting up a guidance program to guide 4 to 5 starting talents and work towards a performance at the Broei closing festival at the end of October 2022.

We are very satisfied with the broad outlines of this first edition of Queens and Friends. There are still a number of work points that we need to work on further. But it is striking: from the start of the project it immediately became clear that this project provides an answer to a need that is still very present, more than we were aware of. That is why we look forward to organise a next edition and making this project more sustainable. The project is fully in line with the mission and vision of Broei vzw.
