Ben je nieuwsgierig naar de rammed earth techniek en wil je je eigen miniatuurversie van een duiventoren bouwen? Doe dan mee op zondag 27 oktober!
Tussen de 12e en 19e eeuw bouwden mensen duiventorens, kleine of grotere torens in hun tuinen waar duiven konden schuilen en nesten maken. Deze torens boden de vogels een veilige plek, terwijl mensen hun vruchtbare uitwerpselen gebruikten om het land te bemesten.Tegenwoordig is deze traditie verdwenen, en hebben de stadsduiven hun toevlucht genomen tot ramen, schoorstenen en dakgoten. Helaas worden ze vaak gezien als een overlast en verjaagd.
Woel Collectief wil de duiventoren terugbrengen naar de stad en een nieuwe ruimte creëren waar mens en dier in harmonie kunnen samenleven. De duiventoren is voor ons een symbolisch beeldhouwwerk dat deze verbinding belichaamt.
Doe mee met het ontwerp- en bouwproces van een miniatuurversie van de duiventoren, die uiteindelijk zal leiden tot een levensechte versie in de stad. We maken gebruik van de rammed earth techniek, waarbij lokale klei wordt samengeperst tot bouwblokken die na gebruik weer teruggegeven kunnen worden aan de aarde.

Curious about the rammed earth technique and want to build your own miniature version of a Pigeon Tower? Join us on Sunday, October 27th!
Between the 12th and 19th centuries people built small or large Pigeon Towers in their gardens where pigeons could shelter and nest. These towers provided the birds a safe space, while people collected their fertile droppings to fertilize the land. Today, this tradition has disappeared, and city pigeons have taken refuge on windows, chimneys, and gutters. Unfortunately, they are often seen as a nuisance and chased away.
Woel Collectief wants to bring the Pigeon Tower back to the city and create a new space where humans and animals can live harmoniously together. For us, the Pigeon Tower is a symbolic sculpture embodying this connection.
Join us in the design and construction process of a miniature version of the Pigeon Tower, which will eventually lead to a full-scale version in the city. We will use the rammed earth technique, where local clay is compressed into building blocks that can later be returned to the earth.
